Welcome

A welcome from the Chairman of the Administrative Board

The University of the Peloponnese gives a warm welcome to its first students and hopes to become a university which is competitive, production oriented, offering modern subject disciplines, advanced technological resources and highly-qualified teaching staff.

The aim of the University of the Peloponnese is mainly to provide modern and fertile knowledge to the students, in order to ensure carrier opportunities for them in the future and their ability to contribute to job market competitiveness. The modern departments will create more business opportunities for young people, will motivate them to search for new horizons and will create new employments. An additional concern of University instructors is for the students to develop proper personalities, that is, people with morals, sensitivity, conscientiousness, cultivation of mind and respect for both each other and the social institutions and values. In other words, students are expected not just to acquire sterile knowledge, but to be able to form character and a cultivated personality.

Apart from the educational aspect, the University of the Peloponnese will attempt to contribute actively and effectively to the wider social, cultural and economic progress of the local and regional community. The role of an educational institution is also a social one, undoubtedly, as it is not a sterile morpheme, isolated from its surroundings. On the contrary, it is a spiritual hub through which a great deal of social, local problems are dealt with and solved.

The new technologies will revive the economy, invigorate current productive ranks and will be utilized productively in agriculture, demonstrating the proper sensitivity towards the environment and the quality of life. The University’s highly specialized staff will help local professional bodies and organizations gain participation into development programmes, national and even European. This will bring not only growth for the region but also administrative decentralization.

The Faculties of the University, which under no circumstances will become isolated, short-lived components, will be converted into hubs of spiritual activity, through speeches, seminars, lectures, conferences, functions, scientific events, theatre, music, art festivals, research and presentation of folklore tradition, in other words, there will be cultural development. The arrival of students and professors, in combination with the stay and settling down of many of them in their birth-town will counterbalance the current stagnation that characterises the Greek Districts.

We are sure that the University of the Peloponnese will manage to come up to the expectations of professors, students and ordinary citizens and will become a major element in the educational, social, political and cultural development of the District of the Peloponnese.
